The Beauty Of The Abandoned and Forgotten…

“What can I say, I’m a sucker for abandoned stuff, misplaced stuff, forgotten stuff, any old stuff which despite the light of progress and all that, still vanishes every day like shadows at noon, goings unheralded, passings unourned, well, you get the drift.”
~Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves~

Walking home from town I pass this place all the time…..today it said ‘take my picture’, so I did. It also gave me the idea for this blog…..I knew I had some other photographs I could use under the guise of abandonment and the forgotten…..

This boat sat here through many high and low tides and storms in the marsh,,,until Hurricane Sandy….then it was no more……

This rope washed ashore after another kick ass December storm……

This poor sailboat ran aground Labor Day weeken 2013……..the folks abandoned her……..she was left to take the beating of the sea and weather…….

A year later….all that was left for you to see was her lonely mast……

As long as I’ve lived here, this abandoned oyster house has been home to an osprey nest…..the winter of 2014/15 proved to be to much for it….

Yet, even in in their current state, they exude their own beauty……….
