Simply Simplified

It’s that time again. What time, you ask. Time to dig in the sandbox over at Impromptu Promptlings Sandbox Writing Challenge. This weeks assignment is to answer the question “What can you do to simplify your life?”

Well, first thing that came to my mind was declutter. Simplify-declutter…kind of the same thing, yes, no?!? For all intents and purposes, I’m going with yes on this one. For decluttering is simplifying my life….

I’ve been on a mission over the last year to declutter, downsize and simplify our lives. It’s amazing how stuff accumulates. With the idea of possibly hitting the road in the not so distant future, I need to get rid of a lot of stuff, and the includes my books. YIKES! Yes even my books. I started out with the ones that I had no real attachment to, easy! I donated them to the library and hospice thrift store. Now, it gets tricky. I’m attached to my Stephen King Books. But the reality is, there are a lot of them, they take up a lot of room and weigh a ton!  Ok, I told myself, Linda, You Can Do This!! I started out with the ones I knew I’d never read again. Gone. But my Dark Tower Series. Really? Come on Linda, you can always download them. True. Not the same thing, but a good compromise. I kept my favorite of the series, The Wastelands. For now. As well as The Talisman. No way is that one going. Oh wait. The Stand. Another keeper. I’m making progress though.

Clothes!! Those pants I keep hoping I’ll eventually squeeze into when I loose weight. Who needs this many jeans anyway?!? Boxed them up and mailed them to my daughter along with tops, jackets and shoes. She said it was better than Christmas. It was so simple really!

How does one simply their life?! Letting go of that which doesn’t serve you anymore. And yes, that means in relationships as well. You know the ones I’m talking about. The emotional vampires who suck the life out of you. The ones who have nothing good to say, the ones who take pleasure out of putting you down….Gone!!! Simple, not at first, but it is liberating….and without all that toxicity, well that’s simplifying in my book………………..I’m on a roll!!

Hmmmmmmm……next up, the shed 😜

  1. You are right, Linda. It’s amazing how stuff accumulates. You’ve done a good job so far. I have a scary, cluttered closet ‘with who knows what’ piling up through the years. That’s a big one for me. Ha ha!
